Who needs this service?

💼 British expats in the UAE

The UAE has one of the largest British expat communities in the world, particularly in Dubai. Since 2021, UK documents for UAE employment and residency require only FCDO apostille plus Arabic translation — significantly streamlined from the previous consular chain.

🏢 UK businesses in UAE free zones

British companies establishing in Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC), Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM), or other UAE free zones need apostilled UK corporate documents. FCDO apostille is the current standard.

👨‍👩‍👧 UK families in the UAE

UK marriage and birth certificates used in UAE family proceedings need FCDO apostille and Arabic translation. UAE family courts follow specific documentation standards that we help you meet.

Required documents

Original UK document UK issuing authority (GRO, university, Companies House) Before process starts Documents must be originals or certified copies from the issuing authority.
FCDO Apostille FCDO Legalisation Office, Milton Keynes 3–5 business days Since UAE joined the Hague Convention in March 2021, the FCDO apostille is now the complete authentication step for most UAE purposes. No UAE Embassy legalization needed.
Certified Arabic translation UAE-accepted certified translator 2–3 business days UAE commonly requires Arabic translation for employment, business registration, and family matters.
UAE MOFA attestation (if specifically required) UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs Varies Some UAE authorities still request MOFA attestation. We advise case by case.

How the process works

1

We confirm whether FCDO apostille alone, apostille + translation, or apostille + MOFA attestation is needed. UAE employment, business, and family documents have different requirements.

2

We submit your UK document to the FCDO Legalisation Office. Standard service: 3–5 business days. This is now typically the only authentication step needed for UAE.

3

If your UAE purpose requires Arabic translation, we arrange it by a UAE-accepted certified translator.

4

For the minority of cases that still require UAE MOFA attestation, we coordinate that step. Your complete document set is then delivered ready for UAE submission.

Frequently asked questions

Does the UAE accept FCDO apostilles from the UK?

Yes. Since the UAE joined the Hague Convention in March 2021, FCDO apostilles are accepted as the standard authentication for UK documents in the UAE. The previous chain (FCDO → UAE Embassy London → UAE MOFA) is no longer required for most purposes.

Do UK documents still need Arabic translation for UAE?

Yes. While apostille covers authentication, UAE authorities commonly require certified Arabic translation for employment visas, business registration, and legal proceedings. We provide combined FCDO apostille + Arabic translation packages.

How long does FCDO apostille + UAE translation take?

FCDO apostille: 3–5 business days. Arabic translation: 2–3 business days (can run concurrently). Total: approximately 1–2 weeks. Much faster than the old consular chain.

Does DIFC or ADGM require additional steps beyond FCDO apostille?

DIFC (Dubai International Financial Centre) and ADGM (Abu Dhabi Global Market) are common registration venues for UK businesses. Most accept FCDO apostille as the authentication standard. Some specific filings may require additional UAE MOFA attestation — we advise based on your specific registration type.

Can I use an existing FCDO apostille for UAE if it was obtained for another country?

Yes. An apostille is not country-specific — it certifies the document's authenticity globally for all Hague member countries. A UK apostille obtained for use in Spain, for example, is equally valid for UAE submission.
